On the 23rd of March, Justin Trudeau (the President of Canada) took to media to declare that no one is invincible. He made it clear that the Canadian government was running out of patience for those who continuously disregarded the social isolation and social-distancing policies. "Enough is enough. Go home and stay home. This is what we all need to be doing" is what Trudeau demanded outside of his cottage where he is currently self-isolating.
This press conference was most likely in response to Ontario, the fourth largest city in Canada, having nearly 80 new cases in a day. Health officials have continuously demanded that Canadians should not leave the home unless extremely necessary and they should avoid having large gatherings. Restaurants, bars and other F&B services have been closed whilst many workers have been sent to work from their own homes. However, Canadians, like the majority of people all over the world, refuse to listen. People were partying and having large gatherings all over the place and this led to Trudeau's iconic remark where he declared that "people (who) seem to think that they're invincible. Well, you're not.".
People are not invincible, they may be more able to withstand the virus upon contraction but they fail to understand the repercussions of their contraction. The world is so interlinked that everyone is in this pandemic together: every action one has has an effect on the people surrounding them. The people who are ignorant and have contracted the virus would be unknowingly spreading it to those who are more susceptible to the virus. This is a Global lesson and it needs to be drilled into our minds: we need to take this crisis seriously. Schools and places of work being closed does not mean that we are on holiday, we have to be safe and wary of the situation.
Don't be ignorant, don't put your enjoyment above the health of others. Stay socially isolated, practice social distancing and don't leave the house unless necessary. We are all in this pandemic together.
